All About My Pets

Hi, I’m here to tell you about my pets.

First, I  have a female dog named Shyla. She is tan and white in color and is three years old. She likes spending her time laying down on a stack of blankets on a chair in my upstairs living room and likes to greet people when they wake up in the morning. She is a spayed chihuahua rat terrier mix.

Second, I have a male dog named Bo. He is black in color and is five months old. He enjoys playing with Shyla and also enjoys saying hi to people he hasn’t seen in a while. He is a neutered Labrador retriever.

Third I have a male Syrian hamster named Digger. He is tan and white and is almost a year old. He acts and looks like a big baby. He likes to fill his cheeks with food and enjoys it when I play with him.

Fourth I have a female Syrian hamster named Leia. She is black and white in color and is also almost a year old. She is super ugly and will bite you if you stick your finger through the bars of her cage.

Fifth and sixth I have two female betta fish named Blue and Velvet. Blue is blue and Velvet is red.

Those are all of my pets.

Guinea Pigs

This is important information I found from a new owner’s guide to guinea pigs.

  1. The guinea pig’s average life span is 5 years, but they can live to be up to 10 years old
  2. Guinea pigs are not nocturnal so if they live in someone’s bedroom they won’t wake up the people at night
  3. They will try to talk to you during the day by making animal sounds
  4. Guinea pigs rarely git sick
  5. Males are called boars
  6. Females are called sows
  7. Guinea pigs don’t like to live in their cage alone
  8. Boars that are siblings will not fight if they have always lived together but if they are not siblings, they will under any circumstance fight
  9. Sows can live together as well but if 1 is pregnant the others need to be removed from her cage until the babies move out
  10. Sows can live with boars, but the boars need to be put in another cage once you realize the sow is pregnant and can’t be put back in until the babies are put in their own cages
  11. You need a cage, nest box, bedding, water bottle, salt lick, guinea pig food, food dish, hay, hay rack, fresh vegetables, gnawing items, a simple block of untreated wood, washing supplies, and a vitamin C supplement
  12. You can clean the cage whenever needed
  13. They eat alfalfa-based guinea pig pellets
  14. Peanuts are a great guinea pig treat
  15. Guinea pigs should eat a large handful of hay each day
  16. Some guinea pigs will eat citrus if they like it but only offer it as a treat
  17. You need to either a) grow lettuce for your guinea pig or b) buy lettuce for him or her
  18. All guinea pigs love carrots and the tops are an extra treat
  19. Get water bottles at pet smart
  20. The first time a sow is mated she should be in between 5 and 8 months old
  21. At 3 to 4 weeks the babies can be put in their own cages
